Minh Tam was one of the most challenging nasal reconstruction cases identified by Master and Doctor Nguyen Tien Huy in the charity program “Rescuing Damaged Noses – Restoring Futures.” This case posed an extreme test for any cosmetic surgeon’s expertise.

10 Years Living in Insecurity Due to a Deformed Nose
Previously, Minh Tam lived a normal life, working and interacting with confidence. His appearance was never a barrier for him. However, at the end of 2013, he suffered a traffic accident that fractured his nasal bone from the eyebrow line downward. Doctors at the time suggested grafting rib cartilage to reconstruct his nasal tip and bridge. Unfortunately, the grafted nasal bridge failed to integrate and was rejected. At that moment, he prioritized his survival over the state of his nose, not giving it much thought.
Over time, the deformity affected his confidence in communicating with clients and partners, leading to missed opportunities. Seeking a solution, he consulted many major cosmetic hospitals, but none accepted his case due to its extreme complexity and the significant time and effort required for correction.
By chance, while accompanying his father to University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City, a doctor who noticed his condition referred him to Master – Dr Nguyen Tien Huy. Dr. Huy, an experienced specialist in correcting deformed noses, also ran the charity program “Rescuing Damaged Noses – Restoring Futures” aimed at helping patients with financial difficulties address nasal complications. Minh Tam began following Dr. Huy on social media, learning about his successful cases, such as Phuong Dong and TikToker Tuan Tai….

The Solution: Rebuilding the Nasal Base and Restoring Its Shape
In Minh Tam’s case, the accident resulted in the loss of his nasal bridge, septum, and internal mucosa, along with scarring and contraction at the nasal base. To elevate the nose properly, a sturdy nasal base is required, supported by a strong internal framework.
The initial solution involved using a forehead skin flap to reconstruct the nasal bridge, which would be trimmed after three weeks. However, this method would leave a scar. After a thorough examination, Dr. Huy discovered that the skin under the nose was intact, with the primary issue being the absence of a structural framework.
Instead, Dr. Huy opted to use local skin flaps, mobilize and reconstruct the mucosa, and rebuild the internal septum. Rib cartilage would be used to create a stable nasal base. Two techniques were applied: shaping a curved structure for the nasal base and building a straight pillar to provide support. This combination ensured a sturdy framework to elevate the nose and achieve symmetry between the nostrils.
This comprehensive approach offered Minh Tam a functional and aesthetically pleasing nose while restoring his confidence for the future.
